Functions of the Commission
Under Article 320 of the Constitution of India, the Gujarat Public Service Commission performs the following functions.
Conducting examinations for recruitment to Gujarat State Services.
Advising regarding recruitment practices in various civil services of the state.
Advises on matters of appointment and promotion in the civil services of the State, transfer from one service to another and the principles to be followed in the eligibility of candidates for such appointments, promotions and transfers.
Gujarat Public Service Commission, popularly known as GPSC, conducts several examinations to fill Group A vacancies in the state of Gujarat. The purpose of the commission is to conduct examinations for all civil service posts and eventually fill various vacancies in the state. When the commission is approved by the state government, its advertisement is given in Gujarati, English, Hindi news papers, internet etc.
